Tenterfield Endurance Riding Club Inc held its 32nd annual horse endurance event at our purpose built Endurance Ride Base on 4-6 May under perfect weather conditions. 87 horses and riders tested their fitness and horsemanship skills on the 20k, 40k and 80k rides held each day through Girard Forest and Sandy Hill with almost 100% successful completions. Tenterfield provides one of the most challenging and interesting endurance tracks that attract riders from as far as Gympie and Cubby Station in Qld, Wauchope and Coffs Harbour in NSW. The ride was contolled by Local Chief Stewards Caroline Windle and Michael Combe and boasts a competent vetting team including local Vet Luke Annett and Louisa Poutsma from Grafton to ensure horse welfare.
The annual Club event was well supported by the local community. Volunteers came from near and far, and saw riders safely through the on course check points, the electronic timing system and vetting area. Rod and Colleen Taylor again provided dinner on Saturday night an food for riders and supporters all weekend. Tenterfield Mayor Peter Petty presented Best Conditioned Horse Rugs to winners in the 80k event on Saturday nights presentation around the main camp fire and spoke about the towns historical connection with performance horses generally. All successful riders were presented with a Tenterfield Shire sponsored Beanie. There were numerous other awards and lucky dip prizes that were all generously donated by generousTenterfield business houses & others including ……………………………
